A study of fundamental genetic principles including heredity, DNA structure and regulation, and mechanisms of inheritance in bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals. Students will analyze patterns in Mendelian, population, and evolutionary genetics. Students will investigate the ethical and societal dimensions of genetic technologies and interpret the role of genetics in human health and inherited diseases. Laboratory exercises emphasize key biotechnology techniques and analysis of genes, genomes, and molecular processes.
