FALL 2016


Dear Graduate:

With the filing of your application for graduation, you have taken another step towards the completion of the process. Deans Jean Merrill-Doss, Diana Stuart and Vice President Gil Kennon join me in requesting that you attend a Graduation Seminar (see the schedule below).     

At these sessions we will discuss the graduation process, commencement, transcripts request, exit interviews for Financial Aid recipients and Career and Technical Graduates, and the exit exam. If you are unable to attend one of the seminars, you may view the seminar online at . It will be available after the live seminars have taken place. 

All degree seeking graduates are required to take the Exit Exam. Only the Dean of your Division (Arts & Science or Career and Technical) can waive this requirement. If you previously have taken the PPE Exit Exam and scored at or above the National Average (438 or higher on the multiple choice test or a 3 or higher on the essay test) on one or both parts of the exit exam, or scored a 4 on all parts of the Workkeys Exit Exam, you may be excused from re-testing. To do so you must submit an Exit Exam Waiver Form (available on My MAC Test page or in the Assessment Office); if you fail to complete and submit this form you will be required to retake the current exit exam. The schedule for testing is listed below. All tests will be given in room AS115. More information regarding this test will be given at the Graduation Seminars; sample test items are available on the My MAC Test page or by clicking the links below. 

You should sign up for your choice of seminar dates in Student Services or by contacting Tippi Seals at 573-518-2202. After you have attended the Graduation Seminar or viewed the seminar online (available after the final in-person seminar; go to , select "Graduation Seminar Video" on the right hand side of the homepage - AVAILABLE AFTER THE FINAL IN-PERSON SEMINAR), you may register for the exit exam.  You may do this at the seminar, in the Student Services Office or by clicking on schedule your exit exam

The preferred test for placement at Mineral Area College
is the ACT exam,
which is administered at MAC two 
times a year, in October and 
You must apply to take the test with ACT and send
payment directly to ACT
prior to testing at .

MAC does not accept payment for the test.
You must arrive at least a half-hour prior to the start of
the test and bring your ACT exam ticket, which will be
sent to you by ACT prior to the test date.  This ticket
will have your room assignment information along with
other important info. In addition, a picture ID is required.
You will not be allowed to test if you do not have your

The preferred test for placement at Mineral Area College
is the ACT Exam, which is administered in September,
October, December, February, April and June of each
year (click ACT link at left for more details). However,
MAC also offers the COMPASS examination for those
students unable to complete the ACT prior to
The COMPASS test is an untimed examination taken on
computer in MAC’s Assessment Center, as well as other
satellite locations. You do not need computer skills to
the test; it is extremely user-friendly and is less
than traditional paper and pencil tests.

The COMPASS is designed to measure current skills in
writing, reading and math; the results are used to select
appropriate levels of the English and Math courses you
 will take.
If you are unsatisfied with the results of your test and
would like to retake the COMPASS, you are welcome to
take the test as many times as you wish in one or all of
three subject areas.
The fee for the COMPASS test is $20 for all
three test subject areas, $15 for two test subject areas, or $10 for
one test subject area.
You should arrive at least ten minutes prior to
the start of the
test and bring a picture ID (REQUIRED) along with
testing fee, which can be paid by cash, check, debit or credit card.

Beginning January 2014, Missouri's new high school equivalency test is the HiSET test developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS). The cost of the new test will be $95, which includes a $60 registration fee for the cost of the test and $7 for each of the five test sections to cover the costs of administering the test. Because examinees do not have to complete the entire test at one time, they can take the test in sections. The $60 registration fee will allow individuals to test three times during a 12-month period. Examinees that do not pass the test the first time can retake the entire test or any of the test sections two more times within the 12-month period by paying an additional $7-per-section fee.

The Missouri General Education Assessment requires students to demonstrate basic general education competencies prior to being formally admitted to an educator preparation program. This General Education Assessment replaced the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (CollegeBASE or CBASE) in September 2013. 


There is a proctoring/sitting fee of $5 per subtest payable to Mineral Area College. Register for testing at .   All tests will be given in the Arts and Sciences building room 115.
