ACCUPLACER TESTING AT MAC TAKES PLACE WITH LIMITED SEATING.

The Mineral Area College Testing Center follows CDC recommendations for the safety of the public and its employees. All test takers are encouraged to bring and wear face masks. The Testing Center will observe social distancing recommendations.

The preferred test for placement at Mineral Area College is the ACT Exam, which is administered by local high schools. However, MAC also offers the Accuplacer examination for those students unable to complete the ACT prior to registration.

The Accuplacer Next Generation test is an untimed examination taken on computer in MAC’s Assessment Center (Room AS 115 - Check-in is in Room AS 117), as well as other satellite locations. You do not need computer skills to take the test; it is extremely user-friendly and is less stressful than traditional paper and pencil tests. The Accuplacer is designed to measure current skills in writing, reading and math; the results are used to select appropriate levels of the English and math courses you will take, as well as whether the reading requirement prerequisites are satisfied for a variety of MAC courses.

If you are unsatisfied with the results of your test and would like to retake the Accuplacer, you are welcome to take the test as many times as you wish in one or all of the three subject areas. However, we do suggest reviewing study materials for the subject area you are retaking prior to rescheduling.

The fee for the Accuplacer is $20 for all three test subject areas, $15 for two test subject areas, or $10 for one test subject area. You should arrive at least ten minutes prior to the start of the test and bring a picture ID (REQUIRED) along with the testing fee, which can be paid by cash or check, or credit card in our business office or if you schedule the test online. Please note if you use the online scheduler, you are not required to pay via credit card at the time of scheduling; you may bring in payment when you arrive for testing.

The placement scores are listed on the main MyMAC Testing page under "Course Placement Scores".

To schedule HiSET, the High School Equivalency Test at MAC, you must first register at HiSET.org. The exam consists of five sub-tests. The cost for each sub-test is $17.75 ($10.75 for sub-test plus $7 to cover the cost of administering sub-test at a testing center). There is also a $10 state fee payable once every 12 months. The total cost for all five tests will be $98.75. Because the exam is given in sections, you will not have to complete the entire test at one time. If you do not pass the test the first time, you can retake the entire test or any of the test sections two more times within the 12-month period after paying an additional $7 per sub-test fee. You can create an account and register for testing at https://hse.mo.gov.

ALERT: Prior to November 1, 2022, test takers who completed HiSET testing with ETS may access their ETS myHiSET account at the ETS website using their ETS myHiSET login information.

IMPORTANT: To access your historical test information on or after November 1, 2022, you must create a PSI myHiSET account using the same last name and email address as your ETS myHiSET account. You must arrive at least a half-hour prior to the start of the test and bring your ACT exam ticket, which will be sent to you by ACT prior to the test date. This ticket will have your room assignment information along with other important info. In addition, a picture ID is required. You will not be allowed to  test if you do not have your ID.
